"Never before has there been such a mountain of empirical research supporting a whole foods, plant-based diet. People are beginning to sense the need for change and are beginning to question some of the most basic assumptions that we have about food and health- and are changing their lives for the better." • I am finally back to blogging!  YEAH!

      OPRAH's FAVORITE VEGAN CHEF

TODAY ON TV (Jan 4th):  The OPRAH show is going to re-air the episode with the famous:

      VEGAN CHEF- TAL RONNEN

This episode first aired back in OCTOBER- and I missed it (I had just had my baby)...so I am so excited that it will be on again!

Tal Ronnen is the chef that helped OPRAH with her 21-day VEGAN CLEANSE.  He is known as The Conscious Cook- which is the title of his new cookbook.  In October his cookbook made the top of the best selling lists for Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Check out OPRAH's Website for some of his recipes!  www.oprah.com

You can also find recipes on Tal's website: www.talronnen.com

This is exciting to me because-  this type of EATING/DIET is showing up more and more!  I am hoping the word "VEGAN" begins to be more accepted as a nutritionally excellent way of eating!  I don't necessarily consider myself a VEGAN...but I definitely try to eat just like VEGAN's do.  I think the reason I don't use VEGAN is because it comes across as "The people who DON'T EAT certain foods (animal products)".  I would like to be known as "a person who only EATS certain foods (whole plant based products)".

On a side note-  I wanted to first write down some of the thoughts I've had lately that relate to WHOLE FOOD MOMMIES.

This blog is all about us "moms" and the nutritional knowledge we have gained and how we use it in our daily lives.  I know when I started this journey...I would have LOVED to find a website just like this one (especially the recipes).  Of course we "Mommies" LOVE sharing this with people.  BUT- it is hard for some people to understand and accept.  I was recently talking to someone that isn't "understanding" this way of eating.  They are feeling overwhelmed with all of the information out there and they asked if I could sum up my "nutritional" beliefs as briefly as possible.  This is what I came up with:

There are exactly 3 things that cause the majority of the DISEASE/ILLNESS in this country.

These 3 things are:  BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER!

IF I had to come up with 1 thing that would help this DISEASE/ILLNESS MOST,

      it would be:   VEGETABLES!

(Of course there is more to it than vegetables- but they are at the top of the list)

      It is that simple.

QUESTION: HOW MANY VEGETABLES DO YOU EAT EVERY DAY?

I also want to stress a point, FOR ME:

It's NOT about loosing WEIGHT...that is not the goal (but it is an added benefit).

If it was about loosing weight- I would not be feeding my kids this way...

If it was about loosing weight- I don't think I would stick to it for the rest of my life...

FOR ME- it's about my HEALTH! and my families HEALTH!

      I believe:

WHAT I EAT TODAY WILL EFFECT HOW I WILL DIE TOMORROW

SO- what is the best way to eat?  There are many books out there that confirm the basis of this whole website.  WHOLE FOOD PLANT BASED DIET- Focus on eating vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts & seeds.  The research that backs this type of eating is everywhere...and I LOVE seeing it more and more!  Check out The Vegan Chef on OPRAH and the The Vegan Eating Cowboy on Dr. Oz. PROFILE

My journey started the day I became a MOMMY.  From the very beginning I had such a strong desire to feed my children the best.  And thus I started my quest to find out what exactly is the best.  In doing so, I not only found how to feed my children but also how to feed myself.  One of my greatest joys as a Mommy is when I cook an extremely healthy meal and my family not only eats it, but asks for seconds.  Does my family eat perfect?  I wish I could say yes.  Unfortunately the real world comes into play.  But there is a power in knowing what is perfect...A power in knowing what foods cause disease...A power in knowing how my family and I can live a long healthy life together.  Join me on my never-ending journey of eating that healthy meal and never feeling guilty about asking for seconds.
