    • NO WAY!!!!  SERIOUSLY??

I have had several friends text and email about this commercial.

It kills me to watch it. But what is sad to me, is it's truly killing everyone else to eat. Man, KFC knows how to save face. It's not enough that they come out with the "Atkins friendly" double-down sandwich (vomit), but now how lucky are we that they have decided to donate 50 whole cents from every bucket of fried or grilled chicken, to the Susan G Komen foundation for the cure of breast cancer!?!

I am so disappointed on so many levels! What bugs me the most is that the Susan G Komen foundation is all for it? They've teamed up with them and are defending themselves when questioned. There is enough research out there about grilled chicken that causes cancer, someone at Komen has to know the truth, they even admit it a little in the article below.... I mean come on people!! The comments on the youtube video link make me excited to think that there are others who believe and feel the same way I do.

What a mess....  the more I read their site the more shocked I am.. Its all about the money. I used to wonder how these big corporate fast food places slept at night, now I know, they donate to the cure of diseases they help cause! Oh thank you KFC and Komen for teaming up!! BLECH!!

Everything about this site is a joke to me. (no disrespect to those who have suffered)

My advice is save yourself the $12 on a bucket of chicken and donate your own 50 cents to the cure. I mean come on, really???

I found this article that backs my disgust.

Here are some clips from another fantastic article:

"Elizabeth Kucinich, wife of Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio)sent a letter to Nancy Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She did not mince words. “Selling chicken in a pink bucket to raise money for breast cancer research is like selling pink cigarettes to benefit lung cancer or selling pink bottles of liquor to support Alcoholics Anonymous. It is outrageous,” she wrote."

I say, go Elizabeth!! I completely agree with her, How ridiculous can it get?? I never thought it would go this far, what's next?

Then they respond and admit that they know what they are doing, I am truly shocked!:

"A spokesperson for the Komen organization, Andrea Rader, says the group's collaboration with KFC is a way to bring information about breast health to women they couldn't reach any other way. “They’re free to eat the grilled chicken or the vegetable sides, or not eat anything at all," she says. Asked why the Komen organization would associate itself with a version of chicken that contains cancer-causing agents, Rader did not answer the question directly, but said the same was true of all meats, not just chicken. She referred to the findings of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that in all muscle meats, from beef, pork, and fowl to fish “HCAs form when amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) and creatine (a chemical found in muscles) react at high cooking temperatures. Researchers have identified 17 different HCAs resulting from the cooking of muscle meats that may pose human cancer risk." NCI also says that a maximum daily intake of HCAs in food has not been established." Read more

This has to be the biggest let down of all time for me! They know and they chose to do it it anyway!! COME on Komen!! When did it become more about the money than the cure or better yet, prevention?? I am beyond disappointed in this campaign more in Komen than KFC. I am going to have a hard time supporting the Komen foundation from now on. I have always run "The race for the cure", buy all things pink to show my support, and purchase many items from their website, but this has gone too far!! It has to stop! It seems they are willing to do anything for the money. They admit that "all meats, not just chicken have cancer causing agents" and for some reason they aren't pushing that info? HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT KOMEN!

Please don't get me wrong, I am all for supporting research and awareness. However, I am an even bigger fan of PREVENTING BREAST CANCER instead of helping cause it and then donating 50 cents per bucket to cure it! MAN, I am just fired up about this. Cancer, especially breast cancer, hits too close to home for me.

I googled "prevent breast cancer" I found several articles containing information about nutrition. funny, none of them suggest eating chicken in any form. You can read through them, but what I found to be common in all or most was that eating a whole food plant based diet is the key.

I hope my info and frustrations help at least one person to take the step in prevention of the terrible disease.

**Also check out the Think before you pink, "What the cluck?" campaign! They have it set up so you can fill in your name to send an email to KFC and Komen.  Below is the email contents, take a look and submit the email.

"Dear KFC and Susan G. Komen for the Cure,

I am appalled by your “Buckets for the Cure” partnership. I share Breast Cancer Action's shock at this outrageous campaign, which uses the breast cancer epidemic to improve the American public's perception of KFC, and increase the company’s profits from the sale of pink buckets of chicken. There is no doubt in my mind that countless people affected by breast cancer find this campaign offensive and upsetting, as is evident from many blog posts and Facebook pages I have seen.

KFC (with Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s blessing) is engaged in one of the worst examples of pinkwashing. A pinkwasher is a company that purports to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink-ribboned product while at the same time manufacturing products that contribute to the disease. In this case, KFC is encouraging people to buy pink buckets of chicken to demonstrate its alleged commitment to ending the breast cancer epidemic. However, KFC's food is unhealthy and much of it is marketed to low-income communities. KFC thus contributes to the significant problem of providing poor food choices for low-income communities in the United States, who disproportionately suffer from poor breast cancer outcomes and other problems that may be exacerbated by an unhealthy diet.

Instead of partnering with a corporation that sells unhealthy food, I believe that Susan G. Komen for the Cure should work with companies that do not contribute to the breast cancer epidemic."
