Green Fruit Smoothie
Ingredients
Place all ingredients in high powered blender- and blend until smooth
Grapes- 3/4 of a cup (I prefer red grapes- I buy grapes with seeds because they are less expensive and my blender is powerful enough to grind them up)
Lemon- about 1/4 of an inch slice- peel and all
Pineapple- 1/2 cup canned or fresh pineapple (I buy canned pineapple in bulk)
1 Banana (I prefer to use a frozen banana, but fresh works as well)
Frozen fruit- 1 cup (I like to use frozen peaches and strawberries/raspberries)
Ground Flaxseed- 1 to 2 TBS
SPINACH- I put as much as I can fit in my blender...anywhere from 1/4 lb. to 1/2 lb. OR for a more nutrient dense smoothie use some dark leafy greens like KALE or COLLARD GREENS.
WATER and ICE- I add these last, the amount depends on how thick I want my smoothie. I like adding ice- I like the texture, but it is optional.
This recipe makes a pretty big smoothie- I sometimes share, or other times I eat it all by myself. You don't have to use all the ingredients either. You can substitute different fruits if you like. I always try to use the grapes and the lemon...and of course the SPINACH :)
Some people like a less thick smoothie- so add a little less fruit and more water with ice. This makes it more like a green drink. This recipe is a good way to get your GREENS in for the day- so I like to add as much SPINACH as I can.
MOMMY TIP: For those of you with children who are scared of the GREEN... place the smoothie in a solid cup with a straw so your child won't see the color...get them to taste it before they see it...and they will love it!
