Basic Cream Sauce

This is a WONDERFUL recipe to use as a substitute for Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken soup.  These products are made almost entirely of FAT and more importantly the wrong type of FAT.  Even the 98% fat free products are very high in FAT - see more info on that here.

 

Basic Cream Sauce
1 cup raw cashew nuts
2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt or more to taste
2 teaspoons onion powder
2-3 tablespoon Chicken or Faux-Chicken Seasoning (paste usually makes better flavor)
½ teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons cornstarch, flour, or other thickening agent

1 1/2 cups water (to be added after blending)

 

Place all ingredients in blender and blend on high for about 2 minutes until smooth.  Make sure mixture is smooth- not gritty. A high powered blender is optimal, (i.e. Vita-mix, Blendtec).  Then add the additional 1 1/2 cups water and blend again.
